WORKSHOPS: Tanit dance Dance of the Primal Power (oerkracht) Zondag 30 nov (let op: 15:00-19:00) in DanceStreet' 1e Rozendwarsstraat 10 A’dam Tanit is the Great Goddess of the city Carthage (Tunisia, 400 BC). She is the Serpent Lady and the Tree of Life, with serpents. In those old times the Serpent was the symbol of spontaneous creative energy, immortality, wisdom, healing and rebirth. Tanit was the Goddess of Love and Death, Creation and Destruction, Tenderness and Cruelty, Protection and Betray. She rules the sun, the moon, the stars, the zodiac,the heavens, and fertility. The dance of Tanit is a very old ritual danced by women in tribes in the ancient times, it’s one of the purest and oldest belly dance rituals in the world. The dances of Primal power are a reflection of the free and rebellious spirit of the tribe’s life style. They are earthy dance, dynamic, sensual and voluptuous. The dance of Tanit includes Trance movements to release tension, stress and reach a state of relaxation and letting go. The dance is connected to the soil to tap into the power of mother earth. It brings the earthy energy from the feet to pelvis and then spread out the "fire" of sexual energy to the rest of the body in flowing Serpentine undulations... Tanit dances are a real celebration: women use intensively their voices to make Tzagriit (special sounds) which function empowerment to the dancer and create a festive atmosphere.
